The tower connecting Regional Medical Center (RMC) and Regional Family Health (RFH) allows for quick transfer from the Emergency Department to the helipad for transport to distant facilities. The carport between the two buildings provides convenient parking and an entrance, protected from the elements, to ground level of the tower and the emergency registration desk.

The Emergency Department has been redesigned to include two new trauma rooms, one of which has been named in honor of Bob Holtz. “Regional Medical Center and Bob Holtz have enjoyed a partnership to help better the services we offer our patients,” stated Lon Butikofer, RN, PhD, Chief Executive Officer. “In addition to the Bob Holtz Wellness Center, he has provided financial resources to help us meet the needs of not only today, but also tomorrow. Bob has, through selfless generosities, been able to assist many citizens in our area. Through his gift we have been able to build and equip one of RMC’s two trauma rooms. The spacious, high-tech environment accommodates healthcare professionals to perform lifesaving procedures and interventions for trauma patients such as motor vehicle accident victims and inpatients suffering from cardiac and other medical emergencies.”

Bob knows from experience, that in an emergency situation, immediate access to critical care can have a significant impact on patient outcomes. The Bob Holtz Trauma Room, furnished with state-of-the-art equipment, and staffed around the clock with specially trained Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel stands ready to give a patient a fighting chance.

Born and raised on the family farm near Greeley, Bob attended school and graduated with the Greeley High School Class of 1948. Bob worked following graduation, and then spent two years in the Army. Upon returning from the Army, he started Holtz Construction and continued to work for the next 45 years before retiring to farm the land. Grateful to see the fruits of his labor, Bob is pleased to have the opportunity to give back to residents of the community that has been good to him and he has known as home.

Pat Doyle, RN, BSN, Chief Nursing Officer, commented, “The space allotment and design greatly enhance the functionality of the Trauma Room, and allows us to evaluate, stabilize, and treat critical patients more efficiently. We are able to have multiple providers, diagnostics, EMS transport/air ambulance personnel, and critical equipment needed all in one room.”

“We often hear very positive comments about the Bob Holtz Trauma Room from our own patients and other providers and employees who access our Emergency Department,” stated Ries. “With the recent opening of the new helipad, Lifeguard staff from St. Luke’s, AirCare staff from the University of Iowa, and staff from a facility in Iowa Falls toured our Emergency Department and each person was highly impressed with the Bob Holtz Trauma Room. Regional Medical Center is very fortunate to have such a unique, high tech, state-of-the-art trauma room to provide care in for the citizens of this area. Our emergency personnel are dedicated to being here for our communities – our neighbors, friends and family – 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We are very grateful to Bob for his generosity.”

Dr. Butikofer added, “We truly appreciate Bob Holtz’s generosity and acknowledge the humble manner in which he shares his philanthropic gifts.” Previous philanthropic endeavors with RMC include the Bob Holtz Wellness Center.
