Public Health

Delaware County Public Health is an integral component of the healthcare system to Prevent, Promote, and Protect the health of residents in Delaware County.  The public health department operates under 10 essential functions which include:

  • Monitor health status to identify community health problems.
  • Diagnose and investigate health problems and health hazards in the community.
  • Inform, educate, and empower people about health issues.
  • Mobilize community partnerships to identify and solve health problems.
  • Develop policies and plans that support individual and community health efforts.
  • Enforce laws and regulations that protect health and ensure safety.
  • Link people to needed personal health services and assure the provision of healthcare when otherwise unavailable.
  • Assure a competent public health and personal healthcare workforce.
  • Evaluate effectiveness, accessibility, and quality of personal and population-based health services.
  • Research for new insights and innovation solutions to health problems.

Parents As Teachers

Parents as Teachers is a unique parent education program based on the philosophy that parents are the first and most important teachers and is designed to give children the best possible start in life.  Parent educators provide information and guidance on fostering the child’s language, intellectual, social, and motor skill development from birth to age five.
